2012: Year of the Water Dragon

Here are my top 5 tips for 2012:

1.Stop drinking soda pop.  Swap for green or black tea, sparkling water (like Perrier), or just plain, room-temperature water.  Soda is really just empty calories, and many contain corn syrup.  Even if you drink “diet soda” you’re not doing yourself any favors.  Aspartame has been linked to higher risk of stroke! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/01/diet-soda-stroke-heart-attack_n_1247195.html

2.Ditch the Drive-thru.  There really is no reason to eat fast food! Try planning ahead by bringing your own lunch, or taking the time to sit-down to eat lunch.  A great winter-time choice is soup and many local delis, cafes, and grocers make fresh ones daily.

3.Stay home when you’re sick (and keep your kids home when they’re sick).  Your body is working hard to fight whatever infection or virus you have.  Take the time to rest so your body has resources to focus on getting you better.  You’ll also be helping other people by not exposing them to your illness if you’re contagious.  I have some Chinese herbal formulas available that can help keep your body strong even when those around you are sick.  Ask me about Jade Windscreen and Coldquell.  Or pick up Gan Mao Ling from the Chinese Market in your area.

4.Eat more vegetables.  Especially cooked veggies: steamed, grilled, stir-fried, roasted (have you tried roasted cauliflower? It’s delish).  Try something new: bok choy, kale and turnip greens are all high in naturalcalcium.

5.Get plenty of sleep.
